This week was pretty busy. I had 3
midterms to study for. I think all of them went well, but only one of them has
been graded so far. The one that has been graded is for my understanding
theater 1000 level course. That test was so easy. It was multiple choice/True-False.
I haven’t had an actual multiple-choice exam since freshman year. It was really
nice to not have to sink hours into studying for an exam.
My robotics lab exam wasn’t so easy.
That is partially because I didn’t study that much for it, but also because I
felt like some of the questions were really dumb. Pretty much all of the short
answer questions were over specific details and were more often than not trick
questions. For instance, two of the questions were: what kind of light does an
IR sensor use and what kind of light does a distance sensor use. Well considering
in the context of this class they are the same thing, they both use IR light. So,
I felt that was a bit unfair. I still think I did pretty well on it, all things
considered.
The third exam I had was for my space systems
and mission design course. The midterm was mostly on basic astrodynamics. I
felt pretty good about it. It was a relatively straight forward test. Either
you knew how to do the problems, or you didn’t. I like those exams. The problem
I had a lot of issues with was a diagram of earth with a satellite and you had
to label all of the orbital elements on the diagram. That was pretty tough.
Orbital Elements
There
was a pretty funny (I thought at least) extra credit problem. It asked: what is
the distance to the nearest star from earth? That was a bit of a trick question,
but is really easy once you put some thought into it. The answer is the sun. It
is really easy once you think about it, but it can be easy sometimes to forget
that the sun is in fact a star and not just the sun.
Overall though, this was the easiest
round of midterms I have had in a long while.
Hey again Chris. It’s good to hear that your midterms went well, but that sounds like it was a really busy week. I remember taking robotics lab last year and what its midterm was like. It was probably one of my least favorite midterms of all time just because of how the questions are phrased and look to trick unsuspecting students.
